What Do We Need?

To fix the iPhone charging port we will need the following materials and tools:

  • Replacement connector.
  • Suction cup.
  • 5-point screwdriver.
  • Standard Philips # 000 screwdriver.
  • Spudger or calliper.
  • ISesamo tool special for Apple devices.

Then we will follow the following steps:

Step 1:

Turn off your phone. Whenever you manipulate an internal component of the phone in any way, it must be switched off. So far easy, right?

Step 2:

Remove the screen. Use the 5-blade screwdriver to remove the two screws at the bottom of the front case. Then, put the suction cup just above the Home button on the phone and gently pull it out. The inside of the phone will appear before you, containing the battery, connectors, motherboard, integrated circuits, etc. Now you must use the # 000 screwdriver to remove the three screws on the upper right side of the inside of the phone. Be careful not to put them together with the ones on the housing!

Disconnect the battery. After doing this, use the spudger to lever the three flexes that join the plate with the display, in such a way that the latter is detached.

Step 3:

Remove the Lightning connector assembly. This connector receives its name, lightning in English, thanks to its high data transfer speed. Remove the screw from the assembly with the #000 screwdriver. Then, pull the cable using the spudger. The connector support will be exposed, which has its own 7 screws that you will also have to unscrew using the same tool. Be careful because they are of different sizes and shapes, do not mix them! Now, use the spudger very delicately to extract the connector of the speakers and the Lightning, which come together, pulling little by little and surrounding its entire perimeter. Be careful with the cables you find and try to handle them as little as possible.

Step 4:

Detach the speaker from the Lightning connector assembly. Just a small adhesive joins these two components, which you can easily separate using the spudger tool.

Step 5:

Replace the connector assembly. The best way to replace the assembly is to start with the Lightning connector. Being in the middle will make everything else we place around it without getting off-centre. Use the # 000 screwdriver to replace all screws except the one on the bottom right, as we will need it later. Place the components corresponding to this part correctly aligned. Then install the rest of the assembly screws. If one of them doesn’t screw on properly, don’t force it: this means that the rest of the components are not aligned properly. Try to align them again and repeat the operation. Finally, reconnect the connecting cable.

Step 6:

Reconnect the display assembly. Reattach the three cables you removed in Step 2 to your iPhone 5. Connect the battery. Once this is done, attach the display case and screws with the # 000 screwdriver. Replace the front cover (without forcing it), and finally screw in the first two screws that you removed with the 5-point screwdriver.

Step 7:

Test your charging port. Plug your mobile into a power outlet or the PC and check that everything works correctly.

We hope this information is useful in order to identify the problems with the charging connector of your iPhone 5.
